Improving Youth & Family Engagement in High-Stress Moments

De-escalation with adolescents requires a different approach than traditional adult-focused strategies. To effectively support youth, both frontline staff and leaders must understand what is driving behavior and respond in ways that promote regulation, connection, and collaboration.

This training, led by Dr. Phillipi, explores brain-based approaches to de-escalation and challenges participants to move beyond managing behavior toward meaningful problem solving. Frontline staff will focus on practical strategies to help youth regulate, calm, and engage, while leaders will examine how to reinforce these approaches across teams and create environments that support consistent, effective practice.

Participants will leave with tools to strengthen engagement in the moment and strategies to support sustainable implementation across staff and systems.
