The CARE Center’s Approach to Authentic Youth and Family Engagement

In 2016, the 29th Judicial District Court in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana decided to reimagine their juvenile court services through a robust partnership with a community-based organization. The Court asked the St. Charles CARE Center, an Assessment Center, and Reclaiming Futures to team up to develop a screening and assessment process for system-involved young people that prioritized authentic family engagement in pursuit of better individual and community outcomes. This engagement and assessment process, called Family SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral To...), takes a family-centered approach to identifying needs and motivating families to begin the change process. In addition to youth justice services, Family SBIRT is also the foundation for school and community-based services in St. Charles Parish and showing early signs of success.

This webinar will allow attendees to learn about The CARE Center’s approach to authentic youth and family engagement and the Family SBIRT process.
